Therapure Biopharma Inc. (Therapure) is a biopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) established in 2008. Therapure specializes in the development and manufacture of sophisticated biologic products at its 130,000 ft2, cGMP biomanufacturing facility based in Mississauga, Ontario employing more than 120 highly skilled individuals. Therapure is the only Canadian company offering contract mammalian cell culture development and manufacturing services.
In 2011, Therapure underwent significant growth in terms of new services and cGMP capacity, which included:
- Completion of facility retrofits in support of a long term supply agreement for the purification and fill/finishing of plasma protein therapeutics
- Acquisition of 100L - 2,500L mammalian cell culture bioreactor trains
- Addition of 2,153 ft2 of clean room space to support growing customer requirements
The mammalian cell culture expansion complements Therapure’s existing world class downstream purification capabilities and secures Therapure as an internationally recognized leader for the contract production of biologics while creating a Canadian centre of excellence in the Life Sciences sector. In addition to biologic manufacturing and process development, Therapure offers aseptic fill/finishing services. Therapure is well positioned to successfully compete in the global biologic CDMO market which is forecasted to grow from $22.2 billion in 2009 to $33.7 billion by 2014.
Additionally, Therapure has a portfolio of internal drug development programs focused on liver cancer, hepatitis C and chemotherapy induced anemia. All of the products are pre-commercial with the lead program scheduled to begin Phase 1 in 2012. Therapure’s drug discovery pipeline is built on a deep knowledge and understanding of blood cells and blood proteins. Therapure’s products are protected by an extensive portfolio of issued patents in the fields of protein drug conjugation and hematopoietic stem cells.
